I’m Javier Ayala. Colombian, designer, and entrepreneur.
Since 2013, my work has revolved around a single idea: design as a way to address social issues, especially those affecting vulnerable communities. That intention is at the core of both of my brands. Bénieller, A beachwear line crafted with 100% Colombian labor. And ToStart Coffee, Specialty coffee produced in partnership with growers in Huila—directly, transparently, and without intermediaries.
Living between multiple cultures at once eventually led me to therapy. And from that process, curiously, my content was born: I began reading about interculturality and creating videos that now connect me with Latinos around the world. We exchange ideas, and I’m nourished by the community I’ve built in a genuine, organic way.
I’m currently pursuing an M.B.I. in Creative Business Leadership at SCAD. And here’s something curious: I don’t have a good relationship with sleep. I wake up in the early hours of the morning and never fall back asleep; I read, work, study. What fascinates me is that my best ideas arrive precisely in those moments when sleep refuses to return.
